Hannah Milward – the beats for nepal
Independent Welly nurse, Hannah Milward, is the reason for the Beats for Nepal fundraiser happening on the 28th of August at Meow. Unlike other fundraisers for Nepal, this one is to actually help Hannah to go and volunteer her skills in the medical and dental camps there at the end of this year. Hannah has a passion for humanitarian work and has already volunteered her skills in Cambodia for three months. But does she really know what she is in for in Nepal?
Ready Sett, one of the Welly bands playing at the fundraiser play live opening and closing track.
Nadia Reid- the new folk generation
I first saw Nadia Reid perform as the honorary support for Julia Deans at Paekakariki’s Village Hall. I then shouted myself her debut album, ‘listen to formation, look for the signs’ which I have had on high rotate since Christmas. I am still discovering the joy of it. Nadia is certainly part of the new generation of emerging kiwi folk artists, but this woman writes and sings way beyond her 23 years of life experience. I was very excited to interview Nadia this week and even more excited that she is back in Welly to play at Meow this Sunday the 28th June.

Jennifer Whitty – the space between
The first time I heard that Massey lecturers Jenn Whitty and Holly McQuillan were creating a fashion range made of up-cycled corporate uniform waste, I thought they had they had a huge job in front of them, but it seems they are up to so much more than that.
In this interview lecturer and designer Jenn Whitty talks about the label and concept for . ” We don’t have a waste problem, we have a design problem.”
Although Space Between are not showing, NZ Eco Fashion Week is kicking off it’s third year this week, so demand is certainly rising for less harmful but just as stylish fashion options.
