Talk:Operational transconductance amplifier

The operational transconductance amplifier OTA is an amplifier whose differential input voltage produces an output current. Thus, it is a voltage controlled current source VCCS. There is usually an additional input for a current to control the amplifier's transconductance. The OTA is similar to a standard operational amplifier in that it has a high impedance differential input stage and that it may be used with negative feedback. The first commercially available integrated circuit units were produced by RCA in before being acquired by General Electric , in the form of the CA archived Intersil page , [2] and they have since been improved. Although most units are constructed with bipolar transistors, field effect transistor units are also produced. The OTA is not as useful by itself in the vast majority of standard op-amp functions as the ordinary op-amp because its output is a current.

An operational amplifier often op amp or opamp is a DC-coupled high- gain electronic voltage amplifier with a differential input and, usually, a single-ended output. Operational amplifiers had their origins in analog computers , where they were used to perform mathematical operations in linear, non-linear, and frequency-dependent circuits. The popularity of the op amp as a building block in analog circuits is due to its versatility. By using negative feedback , the characteristics of an op-amp circuit, its gain, input and output impedance , bandwidth etc. Op amps are used widely in electronic devices today, including a vast array of consumer, industrial, and scientific devices. The op amp is one type of differential amplifier. Other types of differential amplifier include the fully differential amplifier similar to the op amp, but with two outputs , the instrumentation amplifier usually built from three op amps , the isolation amplifier similar to the instrumentation amplifier, but with tolerance to common-mode voltages that would destroy an ordinary op amp , and negative-feedback amplifier usually built from one or more op amps and a resistive feedback network.

After presenting an overview of analog circuits and their applications, the drawbacks and limitations of some traditional op-amp-based circuits have been elaborated. A brief account of a number of alternative, popular and modern analog circuit building blocks such as operational transconductance amplifier, Current conveyors, operational trans-resistance amplifier, four terminal floating nullors, current differencing buffered amplifier and current differencing transconductance amplifier, is given and the necessity and the scope of the present monograph have been highlighted. Operational transconductance amplifier

This paper deals with well-defined designcriteria for two-stage CMOS transconductance operational amplifiers. A novel and simple designprocedure is presented, which allows electricalparameters to be univocally related to the value ofeach circuit element and biasing value. Unlikeprevious methods, the proposed one is suited for apencil-and-paper design and yields accurateperformance optimization without introducingunnecessary circuit constraints. Bandwidthoptimization strategies are also discussed.

The tremendous growth in microelectronics over the past few decades have raised the CMOS technology miniaturization to a robust and an inexpensive electronic platform that is well suited for the implementation of wireless devices which they are essential parts of our everyday life. The wireless technology is used to meet the wireless devices requirements, therefore, we can move from person-to-person wireless communication towards person-to-device and device-to-device communication. Wireless technology has enabled us to obtain wearable wireless communication systems with higher speed, very small size and very low power consumption used for health monitoring system Figure 1 Mourad, In fact, the wearable and the implanted health monitoring technology has a strong potential to change the healthcare services future by enabling ubiquitous patients monitoring and it focuses on remote monitoring of elderly or chronically ill patients in residential environments. For example, it has been shown that the operational transconductance amplifier OTA has a huge plethora of applications in analog electronic circuits. However, as CMOS technology scales down to the nanometer regime, many design problems arise to accomplish target specifications, and this task become impossible to mitigate when performing traditional manual design.
