Claire Mandatory - blue IMG_7630 This is the illustrious and industrious Clare Bowden, designer for one of Welly’s most iconic businesses, Mandatory Menswear. She along with business partner Fiona Edwards has been dressing men from around the country and beyond from their Cuba street store for 18 years now. In this interview Clare talks about what it is like being in the rag trade for men and how she got the zips into the armpits of Fat Freddy’s Drop horn player, Joe Lindsay’s suits, and why Mandatory are popping up in Miramar next week.

One of the best days in Welly’s summer calender, is about to become three, with the first one kicking off this Sunday the 8th and the others on the 15th of Feb and the 8th of March. In this interview one of Ciclovia’s organisers, Susan Hutchinson – Daniel, talks about why these car free, open street days are manifesting globally.

Marianne Elliot – Living under Fire

Not only is  the smiling face that greets you upon entry to Welly’s most fun restaurant , she is the author of  a book of memoirs about her time as a human rights lawyer in war torn Afghanistan, a Yoga Guide, and she is about take on a new role as change maker with .

Part 1 – Before she hits the ground with this next project, I wanted to ask her about her life and death experiences in Afghanistan, how she got through this time and why she came back to Wellington.

 

Part 2 –  chats about the effects of the organic tequila at her restaurant LaBocaLoca, her new role at ActionStation and some wonderful insights into what she thinks is important right now, especially for women in our community.
